Study

The purpose of the Open Redcedar Adaptation Network is to compare the growth of redcedar from different seed sources. Trees from Oregon and Washington seed sources were planted at three locations in the Puget Sound.

Hypothesis

We hypothesize western redcedar trees from Oregon seed sources will out-perform Washington seed sources because of they are likley better adapted to the warmer and drier conditions anticipated in the future.

Plan

Western redcedar trees will be re-measured annually. Survival and increases in diameter and height will be compared between seed sources in each location.

Data

The data from this project will be maintained openly and are available at Open Redcedar Adaptation Network (jmhulbert.github.io)

Participate

The project was designed for anyone to participate. We welcome classes or groups to collect and analyze the data. Ideally, we aim to engage with educators and students in Seattle, Renton, and Tacoma to collect and compare data between the cities. Please contact us if you are interested in participating.
